Retired civil servant and designer of the Nigerian flag Michael Akinkunmi on Monday clocked 85.
Born on May 10, 1936 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Mr Akinkunmi is commonly called ‘Mr. Flag Man’.
President Muhammadu Buhari sent greetings to Akinkunmi on his birthday, joining family members and friends to celebrate with the man “whose creativity and patriotism remain remarkable.”
In a congratulatory message by his spokesman Femi Adesina, the president affirmed that Akinkunmi, who is an honorary life presidential adviser, upholds the values that every citizen should emulate for nation building.
According to him, such values include humility, selflessness, integrity and a keen interest in seeking greater good for country and humanity.
The president prayed that God would grant the octogenarian longer life, good health and strength to keep serving the nation he loves so much.
Akinkunmi was 77 years old when he received the national honours award of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) from then President Goodluck Joanthan.
