The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the diversion of United Nigeria Airlines flight NUA 0506 to Asaba.
The flight took off on Sunday from Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos with Abuja as destination but ended up in Asaba.
In a statement on Monday, NCAA director-general Capt. Musa Nuhu said the incident would be adequately investigated.
“The Authority wishes to reassure the travelling public that it will leave no stone unturned as it has always done in the past to ensure continued safety of the aviation industry,” he said.

Earlier, head of corporate communications of United Nigeria Airlines Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, in a statement, said the flight was temporarily diverted due to poor destination weather.
“At all material time, the pilots of the aircraft were aware of the temporary diversion and were properly briefed.
“However, a wrong announcement was made by cabin crew upon landing in Asaba creating confusion among the passengers.
“Meanwhile, the aircraft had landed safely in Abuja following improvement on destination,” he said.
