Director of public affairs at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Reuben Muoka has emerged winner of the Distinguished Spokesperson in Technology Award presented by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
Mr Muoka was presented the award at the maiden National Spokespersons Summit/Awards held at the International Conference Centre (ICC) Abuja on Wednesday.
Muoka also made the shortlist of three for the Best Spokesperson of the Year Award. The category was won by the national PRO of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Maiwada.
In his remarks at the event, NIPR president and chairman of the governing council, Ike Neliaku, congratulated the awardees, urging them to keep on blazing the trail in their professional callings.
According to him, even though about 20 spokespersons bagged various awards at the event, those who cut three of the finalists in the categories of the awards are also deserving winners in their rights.
Muoka was appointed NCC director of public affairs in June 2022.
A former deputy communications editor of the Vanguard Newspapers, former deputy general manager at MTS First Wireless (Nigeria’s first mobile telephone operator), Muoka joined the NCC in 2007 as a principal manager, and was deployed to the public affairs department where he headed the media and public relations unit.
He later rose from the rank of principal manager to the position of an assistant director in 2010, and by 2015, as a deputy director, appointed to head the re-engineered public relations Unit of PAD. In 2017, he was redeployed to the policy, competition and economic analysis department to head the economic analysis unit of department.
Muoka was in 2021 appointed to head the special duties department, which superintends the international relations unit; emergency communication centres unit; the public-private partnership unit; and the security services unit of the commission.
