The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) will on Monday, March 7 arraign deputy police commissioner Abba Kyari on eight-count charge bordering on drug trafficking.
Kyari and six others suspects will be arraigned before Justice Emeka Nwite of a Federal High Court, Abuja.
Among the six suspects are four members of the police intelligence response team (IRT) — ACP Sunday Ubia, ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirigba and Inspector John Nuhu.
Other defendants are two alleged drug traffickers that were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu: Chibunna Umeibe and Emeka Ezenwanne.
The NDLEA, in the charge it filed through a team of lawyers led by its director, prosecution and legal services, Joseph Sunday, accused Kyari and the other police officers of conspiracy, obstruction, and dealing in cocaine worth 17.55kg.
It equally alleged that Kyari and the others, who are currently in its custody, also unlawfully tampered with 21.25kg worth of cocaine.
The duo of Umeibe and Ezenwanne was accused of conspiring with others at large to import 21.35kg of cocaine into the country.
The charges come amid plans by the Federal Government to extradite Kyari to the United States to face trial for alleged involvement in wire fraud.
