Top American content platform and movie production company Netflix has confirmed their partnership with filmmaker Kunle Afolayan to produce three movies.
This partnership was confirmed in a video released by Kaphub, a blog owned by Kunle Afolayan, which featured a discussion between Netflix’s director of content for Africa Ben Amadasun and Kunle.
The movie maker revealed that the three movies he would be producing would touch on different genres and backgrounds.
According to him, the three movies can be categorised as historical drama, folklore fantasy and character drama.
All three will be set in Nigeria, the first of which will be an adaptation of the third novel of Nigerian-American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter Seffi Atta titled Swallow.
Swallow is a story about a naive secretary who after a series of career woes considers her roommate’s offer to work as a drug mule in mid-1980s Lagos.
The movie is set to star the likes of Chioma Akpotha, Eniola Badmus, Mercy Aigbe, and Kelvin Ikeduba among others.
Expressing his excitement at the partnership, Kunle said: “There’s never been a greater time for us, where you have so many Nigerian stories being shown to the whole world.”
Mr Amadasun also expressed his excitement as he said it would be “exciting to bring his (Kunle’s) works like The Figurine and most recently, Citation, October 1, to our members around the world to watch.”
Kunle also produced three films – Roti, Omugwo and The Tribunal – for Africa Magic in 2017.
