Cash-strapped Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will be coughing out a whopping $48,000 monthly to pay newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, according to popular website, AfricanFootball.
This sum when converted to local currency at the current exchange rate amounts to over N18m and N216m monthly and annually respectively.
What this means is that the German tactician will most likely earn around one-tenth of the budget of some Nigerian states in a year.
The likes of Ekiti, Taraba and Niger states receive a yearly allocation of 67, 68 and 74 million respectively which is even slightly below one-tenth of what the gaffer gets.
More worrying is the fact that Rohr’s predecessor, Sunday Oliseh, claims to be owed by his former employers despite his monthly salary being about N12m less.
However reports claim the Glass House won’t be responsible for this mammoth wage and instead will be footed by oil merchant, Ifeanyi Ubah.
“For transparency and accountability, this sponsor will pay money to the NFF financial consultants, Financial Derivatives, who will then pay the coach,” NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, said in a recent interview.
“Financial Derivatives, headed by Bismarck Rewane, a man of impeccable character, will interface with the sponsor. The NFF will not pay the coach directly.”
Rohr has managed four other African sides namely Niger Republic, Burkina Faso and Gabon.
His first task is to accomplish the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania in Uyo on September 3.
