The new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Liz Truss has appointed Kemi Badenoch as the secretary of state for international trade and president of the board of trade.
Truss officially took over from Boris Johnson on Tuesday after the latter lost support from MPs following a slew of scandals.
Later on Tuesday, her office announced Badenoch’s designation as a member of the new cabinet.
She takes over from Anne-Marie Trevelyan, who has been appointed as secretary of state for transport.
Prior to this time, Badenoch had held the position of minister for equalities and local government. The 42-year-old was also junior minister in the treasury.
Badenoch contested the prime minister position, but finished fourth in the race.
