A newborn baby wrapped in a polythene bag has been found dead in a gutter near Aku village, Mararaba in Karu area of Nasarawa State.
The incident which occurred on Tuesday sent the residents into shock.
A resident Anthony Ignatius told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that a similar incident happened in 2019 on the other side of the gutter in the same area.
“I think the mother must have given birth to the baby in the night and dumped her in the gutter,” he said.
“I wonder why a mother, who carried a baby fro nine months, would behave in such a wicked manner. The woman should have taken the child to the motherless babies’ home. This is sad.”
Another resident Amina Abubukar said he had only read about these kind of acts but had never seen it.
“I don’t think I can sleep tonight after seeing this,” he said.
When contacted, the Nasarawa police spokesman Rahman Nansel said the matter has not been reported but that the police will carry out investigation.
