First lady Aisha Buhari has advised her successor to live the way she wants and not allow anyone “mortgage” the government.
Mrs Buhari gained a reputation for being critical of her husband’s administration back in 2016 when she said the government had been hijacked by a cabal.
Speaking with the BBC in an interview published on Friday, she said, “My advice to her is that she should be herself, she should not allow anybody come and mortgage their administration. They have to listen to the people that voted for them.
“She must be herself no matter the circumstances. She should not allow people to define her, she should try to define herself.”
Asked what areas she feels her husband’s administration did not impress the people, she said, “I don’t know. I run my office like charity, I just receive people but I don’t engage in politics.”
“My own is to help them on issues that concern health and education, I’m not very deep into what they do,” she added.
Mrs Buhari, who was recently appointed head of the APC women’s presidential campaign team, expressed optimism that the party would win the 2023 presidential election.
She said she wants to be remembered as one who served the people in the area of education.
