Singer Simi has reacted after facing criticism for wearing a swimsuit at a poolside event despite being a married woman.

On Monday, Simi shared a post on her Instagram page, showcasing her fun day at the pool dressed in a revealing swimsuit which quickly drew the ire of some netizens.

In a light-hearted response, Simi took to Instagram on Tuesday to address the controversy.

She began her apology with a feigned tone of repentance, saying, “I just came here feeling repentant. Yesterday I went to the swimming pool, and I wore a swimsuit, guys,” pretending to choke back tears.

A voice in the background interjected, “I told you.”

Simi replied the unknown person, “You did, and I am just so sorry. Honestly, I wasn’t thinking. I didn’t think.”

The ‘Duduke’ singer elaborated that she was warned against wearing the swimsuit but decided to go ahead anyway.

“Iyanu told me, she said, ‘Sims, you can’t wear a swimsuit at a swimming pool; you are married,'” Simi recounted with a sigh.

Continuing with her apology, “Next time I go to the swimming pool, as a sign of respect to my husband, I will wear a kaftan.”

Simi concluded her performance with a promise to improve.

“I will do better, better than the best. I don’t want to disappoint you. I don’t want to give you reasons to look down on me and my marriage. I’m so sorry,” he said.

In a final jab, she quipped, “If nothing at all, please stream my album Lost and Found because I was lost at the pool and now I’m found.”

This playful exchange comes shortly after QEDNG reported on July 5 that Simi and her husband, Adekunle Gold, shared a tender kiss at her exclusive listening party for her album Lost and Found in Lagos.

Adekunle Gold surprised Simi by bringing their daughter on stage, making the event even more special.
