Paris St-Germain forward, Neymar, has been handed a three-match ban for punching a Rennes fan after his side’s Coupe de France final defeat.
The French Football Federation has announced that the Brazilian player will be forced to miss three domestic matches, with a further two matches suspended.
The ban effectively ends his participation in the current domestic season.
After a lengthy injury lay-off, Neymar had made a comeback in the cup final and scored after 21 minutes to put his side 2-0 up, after Dani Alves had opened the scoring.
Rennes found a way back into the match, scoring twice to take the match to penalties where they prevailed.
Neymar was then videoed attacking a fan on his way to collect his runners-up medal as the PSG team were ridiculed by overjoyed Rennes supporters.
It is not the first time that Neymar’s off-field activities have landed him in trouble.
In April, he was given a three-match ban by UEFA for insulting match officials on Instagram after defeat to Manchester United in Champions League last-16.
