Head of Protocol of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Abubakar, was shot dead by armed robbers in his house in Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday.
The NFF announced the fatal shooting through its Twitter handle.
It also disclosed that Abubakar’s remains were being taken to Kaduna for burial.
NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi said the 43-year-old “was full of life when he left the office yesterday; the Federation has lost a dedicated and assiduous staff. This is so painful.”
Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, was among the first callers at the NFF secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said: “We pray that the Lord will console the family he left behind, the NFF and the entire football family. May God grant him eternal rest. Amen.”
‘Ibro’ as the deceased is fondly called, joined NFF in 2007.
He is survived by a wife and three sons.
