The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a new directive to clubs following the death of Chineme Martins, a defender with Nasarawa United FC, who slumped during the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 23 against Katsina United in Lafia.
The NFF in a statement on Monday also posted on Twitter said it reviewed the situation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the League Management Company (LMC).
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports in conjunction with the NFF engaged the LMC and reviewed the situation. As an immediate first step, it has directed that beginning immediately no further match be played except there is full complement of the medical equipment and personnel as provided in the NFF Club Licensing Regulations. Effective compliance date is Saturday, March 14. 2020,” the statement said.
“All Match Commissioners and the host FA are to ensure they inspect all the facilities including carrying out test runs before giving go-ahead for any match to be played. The NFF and LMC will ensure full compliance.”
The football body said it regretted the incidence and condoled the family of the late player and football stakeholders.
