The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has settled for German tactician, Gernot Rohr, as the new technical adviser of the Super Eagles.
Three-time African champions, Nigeria, have been in the hunt for a foreign manager after they failed to tie up a deal with former French international, Paul Le Guen in July.
Their manager-less status stretches back to February when Sunday Oliseh abruptly quit less than six months into his reign.
Rohr, 63, was previously ignored by the Glass House despite showing keen interest to take charge of the West Africans who are currently ranked 70 in the world.
According to multiple reports, the coach is expected to arrive the country, Saturday, alongside two of his aides and would thereafter sign the dotted lines in Lagos ahead of his unveiling on Monday in Abuja.
NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, disclosed that Rohr would on Sunday watch the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match involving Ikorodu United and visiting 3SC of Ibadan at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos.
Giving reasons why the body went for the German tactician, Pinnick said “The factors we considered are his experience and pedigree, the fact that he understands the African terrain and speaks good English. Communication won’t be a problem and he is a very knowledgeable coach.”
Rohr has managed four different African teams in the past namely; Gabon, Niger, Burkina Faso and Tunisian club, Etoile du Sahel.
His last role was with the German Football Association (DFB) where he was in charge of their developmental programmes.
