Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has confirmed that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) wants him out of the job.
Rohr was rumoured sack on Thursday despite leading the team to the 2022 World Cup play-offs after finishing top of Group C following a 1-1 draw with Cape Verde in Lagos on Tuesday.
The German coach has come under criticism over his style of play and lack of versatility in tactics.
Rohr told PUNCH on Thursday that the NFF wanted him to quit the team.
Asked if he had been sacked by the NFF, he replied, “Not yet, but that’s what they want me to do.”
It was gathered that the NFF had entered into a meeting to decide Rohr’s fate.
A spokesman for the NFF Ademola Olajire said Rohr was still team coach.
“I’m not aware of Rohr’s sack because there are procedures for doing things at the federation,” Olajire was quoted as saying by Sportingsun.
“Before such a decision could be taken, there will be a meeting of the NFF board and a release issued to the public.”
Rohr was appointed head coach in August 2016 and led the team to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
His current deal expires in December 2022.
