Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has described the semi-final match between Nigeria and Algeria match as wonderful.
Riyad Mahrez curled in a free kick in stoppage time to give the North Africans a 2-1 win over Nigeria in a tense match on Sunday.
The German tactician gave his thoughts on the match in an interview with Reuters.
“It was a big fight until the last minute, it was a wonderful match, I think my players wanted it to go to extra time thinking Algeria were more tired.”
“We scored an own goal, unlucky, but we have come back every time in this tournament and this time we came back on a penalty. But a wonderful free kick from a football genius made the difference,” Rohr said.
The Algerians went ahead when William Troost Ekong turned a Mahrez cross into his own net five minutes before halftime.
Nigeria equalised midway through the second half with a penalty awarded for handball and converted by Odion Ighalo following a lengthy VAR review.
Algeria will face Senegal in Friday’s final while Nigeria play Tunisia in the third-place match on Wednesday.
