Nigeria U23 forward, Etor Daniel, sensationally proposed to his girlfriend, Simi Silas, at the end of a game organised in honour of his late father at the Area 3 Sports Complex, Abuja on Monday.
Etor, 23, was part of the Dream Team VI squad that won the CAF U23 Championship in 2015 but was shockingly dropped from the team that eventually clinched bronze at last summer’s Rio Olympics.
The pacy forward who plays his club football for Enyimba FC took the bold step in the presence of his teammates, Chinedu Udoji, Emmanuel Anyanwu, Razak Aliyu, Moses Ocheje, and Kelly Kester.
Simi, a model and graduate of geography from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who was left dumbfounded by Etor’s move, couldn’t help but succumb to his request.
“I said yes,” said his Adamawa State-born beau.
“I love him. I am so happy; I don’t even know what to say.
“We became friends four years ago and I knew this day will come but I did not know it will be here. It was shocking!”
The forward who has notched 21 goals in 63 appearances for the seven-time Nigeria champions, was full of praises for his fiancée.
“She has been my support from day one, my backbone” he acclaimed.
“She understands me and prays for me.
“I proposed on the day I remembered the first year of my father’s death. It was something I needed to do.”
