The Nigerian Army has announced the rescue of another Chibok girl abducted by Boko Haram in 2014.
A statement by Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman, on Wednesday Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole discovered Rakiya Abubkar and her six months old baby during investigation of arrested suspected Boko Haram terrorists.
“According to preliminary investigation, it was discovered she is the daughter of Abubakar Gali Mulima and Habiba Abubakar of Chibok,” the statement said.
The girl was spotted wandering in the bush near the Islamic extremist group’s forest stronghold, near Damboa.
“She further stated that she was a student of Senior Secondary School Class 3B (SS 3B), before her abduction along with her colleagues on 14th April 2014 by the Boko Haram terrorists.
“Rakiya Abubakar is presently undergoing further medical investigation and would soon be released to the Borno State Government,” the statement added.
A total of 276 schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram from Chibok in 2014 in one of the most infamous actions of their insurgency.
Twenty-one were released in October in a deal brokered by the International Red Cross and Swiss government.
Others have escaped or been rescued but about 200 are believed to be still in captivity.
