Nigerian-born Shola Shoretire has signed his first professional contract with Manchester United.
The 17-year-old forward, who has been with United since the age of nine, is another product of the club’s outstanding academy system.
The signing caps a fine week for Shoretire who scored a hat-trick in the Under-23s’ entertaining 6-4 win over Blackburn Rovers on Friday.
The England Under-16 international has been an important part of Neil Wood’s side this season, featuring 13 times in Premier League 2, scoring five goals and registering three assists.
Shoretire will be looking to hone his talents behind the scenes and maintain his development at the club in the coming months and years, the club said in a statement on Monday on its website.
Shoretire snubbed the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus to commit his future to United.
Born in Nigeria, Shoretire was raised in Newcastle, United Kingdom and cites former Barcelona striker Ronaldinho as his idol. He plays off the left wing but is comfortable on the right or behind the striker.
