Two Nigerians brothers were on Tuesday charged in Singapore with recruiting local women to collect money for them, AFP reports.
The suspects are Oladayo Awolola, 34, and Gbolahan Awolola, 37.
They were arrested by Malaysian authorities in Kuala Lumpur last month and sent to Singapore on Monday.
Police said the Awolola brothers recruited two Singaporean women “as money mules to receive criminal proceeds linked to internet love scams in Singapore” between 2017 and 2018.
They also said the women received Sg$85,700 ($63,000) during the period and gave it over to syndicate members in Malaysia.
It is the first time overseas-based suspects are arrested and sent to Singapore to face charges of internet love scam.
The Nigerians risk up to five years in jail if convicted.
