Nigerian footballer, Ezekiel Bassey, unsure about Barcelona future

Nigeria international, Ezekiel Bassey, is still in the dark about his long-term future with Barcelona.

Bassey joined the Catalan B team on a year-long loan deal last summer from Enyimba, with an option for an outright two-year contract.

However, work permit issues and persistent injuries meant the former Akwa United man was unable to make any appearance for Gerard López’s squad over the course of last season.

Without the powerful forward, Barca secured promotion to the Segunda división B group II for the sixth time in their history following victory over Racing de Santander in the play-off final on Sunday.

Now it appears the Catalan club might discard that option of signing the player on a permanent basis after he failed to impress.

Bassey, himself, fears his contract which terminates June 30 may not be renewed.

“I could not play earlier in the season because my work permit was delayed, I was granted a work permit only last month,” he told Allnigeriasoccer on Monday.

“Along the line, I got injured. It was a shoulder injury but I am okay now.

“The season just ended on Sunday. The club have to meet to decide if they will keep me or not. I still have a contract with them until June 30.”

The 20-year-old has made about three appearances for the Super Eagles B Team.
