American actress Kerry Washington has weighed in on the eternal Jollof rice debate, firmly backing Nigerian Jollof over its Ghanaian counterpart.
Speaking on the red carpet at the 56th annual NAACP Image Awards last month, Washington, who is married to former NFL player and actor Nnamdi Asomugha, was asked which Jollof rice tastes better between Ghana’s and Nigeria’s.
While initially hesitant to take sides, she eventually responded: “Don’t bring me into this, but of course, anything Naija is going to be better. It’s Naija. That is the truth.”
She also shared that the Jollof debate extends beyond Nigeria and Ghana, revealing that her husband Asomugha and her Shadow Force co-star Omar Sy frequently argue about whether Senegalese Jollof or Nigerian Jollof is superior.
Omar Sy is a French actor with a Mauritanian mother and Senegalese father.
Shadow Force is set for release on May 2, promising an intense and gripping storyline.
At 43 years old, Washington remains one of Hollywood’s most influential actresses.
She took home the NAACP award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for her portrayal of Major Charity Adams, the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, in the Tyler Perry film The Six Triple Eight.
