A pregnant mother-of-two, Precious Izekor, has been remanded in prison after appearing in a court in Northern Ireland, UK for allegedly forcing a woman to carry out compulsory labour, Dailymail reports.
The 25-year-old, who is originally from Sierra Leone, is married to Osarobo Izekor, a Nigerian.
Izekor, a resident of Castlereagh Place, Belfast, who was arrested on Tuesday at her mother’s address in Scotland, has denied slavery charges.
Izekor’s appearance comes days after her 33-year-old husband of the same address, became first person charged with such an offence in Northern Ireland.
During her appearance on Friday at Belfast Magistrates’ Court, the court heard that the woman is a naturalised UK citizen with family in Nigeria.
The alleged offence was said to have been committed between December 2016 and September 2017.
A detective from Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) opposed bail to Izekor saying that she had access to £18,000 and that she could make contact with the victim.
Izekor’s counsel argued otherwise saying that other options such as curfew, electronic tagging, reporting to police and passport surrender, could be considered for bail.
District judge, Fiona Bagnall, however, denied bail and remanded Izekor until May 31 for next hearing.
