Nigerian painter Lola Mewu has completed 82 hours of painting to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest painting marathon.
Mewu clocked the time at exactly 4:30 am on Wednesday, November 1.
“She could not have done this alone, big thank you to everyone who assisted, supported, sponsored and encouraged her through this tough journey of exceeding limits,” a post on her Instagram page reads.
Mewu began painting in the Victoria Island area of Lagos on Saturday, October 28 with a target of 72 hours.
Many of Mewu’s paintings feature throwbacks from childhood, like playing in class, family interactions, visiting call centres in the early days of the GSM, parties, looking out the window, and lots more.

Dancer Kaffy, who led a dance group to break the Guinness Book of Records for Longest Dance Party in 2006, called to encourage Mewu during her painting marathon.
Influencers like Saskay and Adeherself also visited the venue to show support.
The Guinness World Record for the longest painting is currently held by Roland Palmerts of France who made 60 paintings in 60 hours in 2013.
Mewu hit 60 hours on Tuesday morning.
Her 82 hours of marathon painting requires certification by the Guinness World Records.
As part of the requirements for setting a new world record, some of her works have already been auctioned.
At the start of her attempt, Mewu announced she had been given the go-ahead by Guinness World Records.
She wrote via X, “I’m thrilled to announce that Guinness World Records has given me the green light for the longest painting marathon! On October 28–30, 2023, I’ll embark on an incredible journey of creativity and endurance.”
Her attempt comes months after Nigerian chef Hilda Baci set a new world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
