Nigerian striker, Sadiq Umar, is poised to take advantage of the vacuum left by recently retired Roma legend, Francesco Totti.
Totti spent his entire 25-year club career at the Stadio Olimpico, before finally quitting at the end of last season, aged 39.
Sadiq, meanwhile, played away from Rome, on loan at Bologna throughout the previous campaign.
The young striker endured a miserable spell blighted by injury, restraining him to merely seven appearances without any goal.
A fully-fit Sadiq, born five years after Totti made his debut for the Giallorossi, is now aiming to step into the enormous boots of the Italian.
“Injuries slowed me down, I’m fully fit now and back at Roma,” the 20-year-old told local radio station, Brila FM.
“Hopefully I will travel to team up with them for pre-season.
“There’s a new coach at Roma and that means a fresh start for everybody, I’m eager, fully fit and rearing to prove my worth to him if given the chance in preseason.”
The Nigerian striker joined Roma in June 2015 on a season-long loan from Serie B side, Spezia.
Having bagged eight goals and three assists in his first four youth matches for Roma, he made his Serie A debut on 21 November 2015 against Bologna, replacing Juan Iturbe after 88 minutes in a 2–2 away draw before scoring his first senior goal in the 3–3 draw against Chievo on the 6 January 2016.
Towards the end of the season his move to Roma was made permanent for a fee of £2 million.
He completed his first season at Roma scoring 2 goals in 6 Serie A appearances.
Sadiq caught global attention while in action for Nigeria at last summer’s Rio Olympics.
The Dream Team VI clinched Bronze medal with the lanky forward finishing as his country’s joint top scorer alongside Oghenekaro Etebo.
