Nigerians have seemingly expressed their delight after Argentina left out Mauro Icardi from its World Cup squad.
Icardi finished as last season’s Serie A top scorer with 29 goals for Inter Milan.
Yet the 25-year-old was ignored by Jorge Sampaoli.
Sampaoli said in a news conference his choices were based on “players that can do many functions to give us different characteristics.
“Those players in the final list are closer to the idea we are implementing.
“They are closer to the opposition’s goal line than to their own.”
Icardi was part of Sampaoli’s preliminary list of 35 players announced on May 14.
If I’m Mauro Icardi, i would switch nationality and play for Nigeria. Sorry FIFA won’t agree.

Thank God Argentina didn’t call Mauro Icardi. Let Nigeria face only Messi, Dybala, Higuain and Aguero.. wait a minute, this is still bad.

So Higuain is better than Mauro Icardi? I won’t say anything again.. Argentina is another participant like Nigeria https://t.co/k8KuAGpVqH
