Chidimma Adetshina, a former finalist in the Miss South Africa pageant, has been named the winner of Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, generating mixed reactions from Nigerians.
The pageant’s grand finale was held on Saturday at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
Adetshina, who had previously withdrawn from the Miss South Africa competition due to xenophobic attacks and debates surrounding her nationality, entered the Nigerian pageant.
She represented Taraba State as contestant number 25 after being offered a spot by the Miss Universe organisers following her withdrawal from the South African contest.
Emerging victorious among 24 delegates, Adetshina will now represent Nigeria at the global Miss Universe pageant.
Her win has stirred up a mix of congratulations and criticisms from Nigerians.
Mr. Dee Buike commented, “Arrange marriage, arrange president, arrange Miss Universe, arrange anti-protesters, arrange Nigeria.”
Raphael Bright voiced his support, saying, “Forget the previous outrage, she deserves it. Her face card is insane! No one stood a chance!”
Uche Fied expressed dissatisfaction, stating, “She was given the crown just to spite South Africans. They should have made it interesting by giving her the runner-up. This is low!”
Stella Sommie added, “Everything in Nigeria is predictable.”
Mode Jkamy remarked, “Well, she was packaged to win. I feel sorry for the girls that worked hard at this year’s edition.”
However, Emmanuel Odogbo praised the decision, saying, “She deserves it, I must commend the organizers of the show for giving her the crown. This is a perfect show of love, affection, and appreciation for our own. I see her winning Miss World.”
