Senator representing Adamawa North, Elisha Abbo, has come under criticism for supporting the social media bill which is under scrutiny at the upper legislative chambers.
Mr Abbo appeared in a viral video early July assaulting a nursing mother who tried to defend an attendant, Bibra Warmate, at Pleasure Chest Shop, FA45, Banex Plaza, a sex toy shop in Abuja.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Senate, Abbo, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that the bill was important to regulate the spread of fake news.
“Even conventional media that are regulated by government are suffering from falsehood. I am supporting this bill holistically. This bill is good and if we cannot regulate the spread of falsehood, it will consume all of us,” he said.
Nigerians on Twitter have attacked the lawmaker, saying he is being vindictive after coming under intense criticism on social media for his actions in the viral video.
