Nigerians were clearly not too pleased by the country’s poor showing at Thursday’s Aiteo/CAF Awards.
Asisat Oshoala and Junior Ajayi were the only two recognised from the West African nation.
Instead, the country led the way in terms of entertainment and not the main business of the day.
Victor Moses was dropped from the final three shortlist for the Player of the Year award, won by ex-Chelsea teammate, Mohamed Salah.
While the Super Falcons and Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr lost in the Women’s Team and Coach of the Year categories respectively.
Some angry Nigerians, including prominent journalists, stormed Twitter afterward to vent their frustration.
The power of North African online voting power. All of CAF Best XI are North Africans bar Junior Ajayi, who plays in North Africa.
Don’t mess with them#AiteoCAFawards2017— Colin NOT Collins (@ColinUdoh) January 4, 2018
The rest of us don’t vote… All we do is rant and complain

I gave up voting for Victor Moses (BBC Africa awards)after trying so many times and the internet was always messing with my head.
So, sometimes no be our fault for Nigeria! https://t.co/860sOl7Vad— e-Mane (@egbojalaughter) January 4, 2018
When will federations/organisations understand online voting is not a very good idea? Usually just a popularity contest. Lots of lobbying from country journalists and fans. https://t.co/khNLeWWBtl

I blame Nigerian journalists.
The only thing they do on here is banter over Europeans clubs. We need to do better.— Oluwatosin Nathaniel (@Toseenn_) January 4, 2018
Typical Nigerians. Blame everyone else but the actual culprits. The reason Nigerian players aren’t winning CAF POTYs is not the citizenry, it’s not journalists, neither is it “politics”.
It is the players themselves. Good night all.

Egypt won best national team.dont forget they not the only country that qualified for world Cup o. Nigeria qualified with same point 13pt. Algeria, Senegal, Tunisia all qualified with 14pt.or is it our fault they haven’t qualified since 1990? #CafAwards #AiteoCAFawards2017

The high point of the #cafawards2017 for me is that Nigeria music industry rule it. #CafAwards

#CafAwards. Naija no dey carry last. With only one award winner in football, Nigeria won in the music category with Wizkid, Tiwa-Savage, Phyno, Olamide, Flavour and Patoranking all representing.
