Nigerians on Saturday joined the family of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, a student of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, in celebrating his 12th posthumous birthday.
Oromoni died after allegedly being attacked by senior students of the school for refusing to join a cult.
His father Sylvester Oromoni told City Round on Thursday, “We will celebrate his birthday on the 4th of December. Please, tell Nigerians to join us.”
He further told The Cable that the family would bake a cake in honour of the boy.
Gboyega Akosile, chief press secretary of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said in an Instagram post on Saturday that no child deserves to die the way he did, adding that the state government would get to the root of the matter.
Actress Tonto Dikeh called for the commemoration of Oromoni’s 12th posthumous birthday on Instagram story.
She wrote, “I woke up with so much pain. How do you lose a child in a safe zone and whose birthday is today? Sending love and light to Master Sylvester’s family and loved ones. Happy birthday young champ, we promise you justice. #justiceforslyvester.”
The actress added, “@dowencollegelagos, we will be leaving flowers and gifts outside your gate. Because today is a child’s birthday that died under your care! Please, if you are in Lagos, leave a little gift and prayer at the gate of Dowen College. Thanks.”
Addressing the school, she said, “The crime was a horrible one but you have made it even more horrendous by lying to our faces or just plain ignorant of the affairs of your kids! Whichever way, we caught you and we need justice.”
