A Facebook post by the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Tukur Buratai about terrorism likely to persist in Nigeria till 2040 has attracted wild criticism.
“There is (a) general misunderstanding of what insurgency and terrorism entail. There is (a) likelihood of terrorism persisting in Nigeria for another 20 years,” he said, in the wake of the killing of at least 43 rice farmers in Borno by Boko Haram insurgents.
The statement has heightened calls for his replacement on Twitter.
