Nigerians have expressed appreciation to Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger after the footballer tweeted a message in support of the #EndSARS campaign.
The German joins clubmates Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori who had earlier supported protesters calling for the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian police.
“Police brutality in Nigeria needs attention. You do that to your own people. It is so sad what is going on there. This has to end,” the 27-year-old wrote.
Nigerians Chelsea fans and others on Twitter were delighted at the footballers’ show of support.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright had earlier tweeted hashtags calling for an end of the police unit accused of rogue activities.
Nigerian players Wilfred Ndidi, Leon Balogun, John Ogu and former goalkeeper Carl Ikeme have also lent their voices to the campaign.
