Nigerians have become apprehensive over the orders placed by the management of Air Peace for 10 new aircraft of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 model.
Chairman/CEO of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, and the Sales Director (West and Central Africa) of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Larry Tolliver, met in September 2018 to sign an agreement between both firms for the acquisition of 10 brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft by the airline.
They met at the residence of the US Consul General in Lagos.
Mr Onyema said concerning the agreement: “We are excited to add the 737 MAX to our fleet as we expand our network to offer more destinations and serve more passengers.
“The fuel efficiency and superior operating economics of the 737 MAX will ensure that the aircraft will play a major role in growing our business in the years to come.”
But the management of the airline is yet to make a statement on the latest development of alleged safety concerns with the 737 MAX model.
Air Peace was looking to make history as the first airline in West Africa to add the equipment to its fleet.
After the plane crash that occurred on Sunday in Addis Ababa involving a Boeing 737 MAX 8 plane, Nigerians have expressed concerns over their safety especially as China and Ethiopia have grounded the fleet pending when safety measures are met.
