Former presidential candidate, Kingsley Moghalu, says Nigerian youth cheat themselves by deciding against voting and choosing to follow reality television show, Big Brother Naija.
Since its introduction in 2006, the BBNaija show, as it is fondly called, has gradually generated interest among young people in Nigeria. The show is currently airing its 2019 ‘pepper dem’ edition.
In a tweet on Monday, Mr Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), berated the youth for choosing to ‘spend their time on the wrong things on social media’ instead of investing in knowledge.
“Our youth cheat themselves when they don’t vote, spend their time on the wrong things on social media, follow the glitterati (@BBNaijafan) instead of the literati (knowledge), and vote, not for ‘ought to win’ but ‘likely to win’ (bandwagon to nowhere, i.e. one chance!),” he said.
