Nigeria’s Ademola Adeyemi-Bero has been appointed chairman of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) board of governors for 2025.
The appointment was confirmed at the 189th OPEC conference held on Tuesday, according to a statement published on the organisation’s website.
The conference also named Eng. Adeeb Al-Aama, Saudi Arabia’s OPEC governor as alternate chairman for the same period.
Adeyemi-Bero’s elevation underscores Nigeria’s influence within OPEC and its commitment to shaping global energy policies.
Congratulating him, minister of state for petroleum resources (oil) Heineken Lokpobiri praised the appointment as a testament to the country’s active role in the international oil and gas industry.
“He emphasised that this appointment provides Nigeria with a vital platform to advocate for balanced energy policies that benefit oil producers, consumers, and the global economy,” the minister’s spokesman Nneamaka Okafor said in a statement.
He also lauded the outgoing Nigerian OPEC governor Ambassador Gabriel Aduda for his exemplary service and contributions to advancing Nigeria’s interests within OPEC.
