Senator Shehu Sani has mocked the Federal Government over its decision to keep the country’s borders open amid the coronavirus spreading across the globe.
The former Kaduna South senator tweeted on Monday after the Minister of State for Health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, told reporters at a briefing on Covid-19 containment in Nigeria that the country would subject travellers from France, Germany, and Spain to secondary screening.
“Our borders remain open for corona and closed for rice,” he said referring to the closure of borders for rice importation.
Mamora, however, said travellers coming into Nigeria from France, Germany, and Spain would have to undergo a secondary screening at the nation’s international airports and self-isolate for 14 days.
He said the three countries have been added to the list of high-risk nations with widespread community transmission.
Nigeria had already placed China, Japan, Iran, Italy and Republic of Korea on high-risk status.
Mamora said the step became important for travellers from the eight countries after Nigeria carried out a review of its case definition for coronavirus.
