Folorunso Alakija

Billionaire businesswoman and one of the richest women in Africa, Folorunso Alakija, has identified a fake WhatsApp account created in her name.

The fashion designer-turned oil mogul warned in a tweet on Thursday that her only social media handle was @alakijaofficial, urging the public to stay away from fraudulent accounts.

“My attention has been drawn to several accounts claiming to be affiliated with me,” said Mrs Alakija.

“My only social media handle is @alakijaofficial and the attached transaction is from an imposter. Please be careful of dubious accounts. Thank you.”

The 68-year-old had in the past raised alarm over fake Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Alakija is vice-chair of Famfa Oil, a Nigerian oil exploration company with a stake in Agbami Oilfield.

In 2014, she temporarily unseated Oprah Winfrey as the richest woman of African descent in the world.
