The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says people who generate their National Identification Number (NIN) during the record harmonisation with Bank Verification Number (BVN) must visit the commission’s enrolment centres to complete their registration.
“If your NIN was generated due to BVN record harmonisation with the National Identity Database, you will not have access to the NIMC mobile app, and your NIN-SIM integration will be invalid,” the NIMC said in a statement posted to Twitter on Tuesday.
“Kindly visit an enrolment centre to complete your NIN registration.”
The NIMC made the clarification following claims by some members of the public generating the NIN with shortcodes.
The announcement could double the number of people who flock NIMC offices daily for NIN registration amid increasing cases of COVID-19 across the country.
