The National Judicial Council (NJC) has issued petitions against the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, and the acting CJN, Tanko Mohammed, after its meeting on Tuesday.
Mr Onnoghen faces query for allegedly failing to declare his assets in violation of the code of conduct for public officers.
On the other hand, Mr Mohammed will answer to query on alleged misconduct in allowing himself to be sworn-in in a manner that breaches existing law and tradition.
Onnoghen and Mohammed will be allowed seven days to respond to the petitions.
The council referred the petition against the CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar, to the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC).
The NJC adjourned to reconvene on February 11.
However, the third most senior Supreme Court Judge, Olabode Rhodes-Vivour of Lagos State, could be elevated to the position of the CJN if Onnoghen and Mohammed are dismissed.
