The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has begun its industrial strike in Kaduna, shutting down electricity and filling stations.
The labour union is protesting the sack of thousands of workers by the state government.
They carried a large banner on Monday ridiculing the state governor Nasir El-Rufai and marched around the state.
The five-day warning strike, according to the Kaduna NLC chairman Ayuba Wabba is for the government to reverse its decision and recall the workers.
Public schools also did not open as the National Union of Teachers joined the strike.
