Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has blamed the Department of State Services (DSS) and sponsors of the south-east’s new joint security network Ebubeagu for the attack on a bank in Anambra on Thursday.
Ten gunmen invaded a First Bank branch in Anambra on Thursday and hoisted Biafra flags after destroying vehicles in the premises.
The incident happened at Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area around 4pm.
Mr Kanu, in a Friday tweet, laughed off the Biafran flags found at the crime scene, adding that it was a conspiracy to destroy the image of IPOB and its affiliate the Eastern Security Network.
He wrote: “DSS & those behind the formation of EBUBEAGU SECURITY NETWORK are the sponsors of the FIRST BANK ROBBERY yesterday in ANAMBRA STATE that claimed two lives. A grand conspiracy to tarnish the image of IPOB & #ESN.
“Imagine planting Biafran flag at the crime scene. Very idiotic!”
The attack took place barely hours after Kanu raised alarm over an alleged plan by the DSS to attack banks in south-east.
The gunmen, according to an eyewitness, drove in black Honda Pilot sports utility vehicle (SUV).
The eyewitness said they set fire on a Nissan Pathfinder SUV with registration number UR 640 KJA and smashed glasses of a Honda car with registration number FST 456 AC, all parked in front of the bank.
DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya has debunked the allegations.
