The family members of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu on Wednesday attended the hearing of his case at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
This followed the court’s order for the Department of State Services (DSS) not to shut down the court premises and its environs over the case.
Mr Kanu exchanged pleasantries with his family members before the hearing began.
The IPOB leader appeared in court wearing his regular Fendi outfit despite an order by Justice Binta Nyako that the DSS should allow him to change his outfit before his next appearance in court.
Kanu’s lawyer Mike Ozekhome complained to the judge that the DSS has refused to allow Kanu to change his clothes.
Ozekhome added that Kanu’s younger brother had thrice been refused access to DSS facility where Kanu was detained.
The lead counsel lamented that since Kanu was arrested and detained, his spectacles were seized by the DSS and have not been returned to him. He asked that his client’s glasses be returned to him so he does not go blind.
However, Justice Nyako said the complaint had been noted and directed Ozekhome to proceed with the matter of the day which was the competence of the charge against Kanu.
