Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lawyer of the detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, has accused the Nigerian Army of going after prominent supporters of the Biafran struggle.
His statement on Saturday came hours after Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu was handed over to the Department of State Services following his arrest on Thursday by soldiers in Onitsha, Anambra State.
Chiwetalu was spotted wearing an outfit made from Biafran flag.
Mr Ejiofor claimed the military operation currently in force in Anambra, Exercise Golden Dawn, was targeted at “whisking away” influential supporters of Biafra.
He also condemned the “inhumane treatment and degradation” of the comic actor by security agencies, saying the actor has not been granted access to his lawyers.
Ejiofor demanded the immediate release of the actor from DSS custody, saying Igbo lawyers “shall take appropriate steps permissible under our laws, to ensure that such occurrence is nipped in the bud.”
He also said that he got intelligence to stay away from the south-east “pending when the dust settles because they can do and undo.”
Ejiofor also adviced the people of the region to apply caution in their activities.
