Police in Lagos say there is no fixed date to arraign a former Lagos governorniship candidate, Babatunde Gbadamosi, and singer, Naira Marley, for attending the birthday party of JJC Skillz, husband of Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele.
Lagos police spokesman, Elkana Bala, told The Nation that the proposed arraignments would not hold on Tuesday.
Mr Elkana said courts no longer sit on a daily basis due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He said: “I don’t know who proposed today. They will be arraigned, but no court is sitting today. Courts don’t sit today. They have days they sit now because of this Coronavirus. They sat yesterday (Monday), the next sitting will be tomorrow (Wednesday).”
Gbadamosi and his wife and Naira Marley turned themselves in on Monday.
They were detained at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Panti, Yaba.
A top official of the Ministry of Justice, who did not want to be named, told the newspaper that some magistrate courts only sit thrice a week due to the pandemic.
Court sittings changed following a March 30 directive from the chief judge, Justice Kazeem Alogba, in the wake of the COVID-19-induced lockdown.
Funke and her husband were on Monday sentenced by a Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ogba to 14 days of community service and fine of N100, 000 each for violating government’s order when they hosted more than 20 attendees at the party held on Saturday.
