Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has responded to speculations on his reason for dropping Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, in the match against Swaziland on Tuesday.
Oliseh opted for home-base star, Paul Onobi, ahead of the more experienced Mikel in the 2-0 win over the South Africans in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier played in Port Harcourt.
According to Oliseh, “nobody has a fixed spot in this team” as he continues his rebuilding process.
He added: “If you are good enough and you can adapt to the tactics that we play, we will do it.”
No player, he said, is guaranteed a starting berth in his team irrespective of where he plays.
The gaffer believes he has been vindicated by his choice of Onobi who showed great composure and character in such high profile encounter.
“What I feel about Onobi is that he’s a home star,” he told Super Sports.
“I said it from the onset that I don’t care of you play at home or abroad. I am glad that the whole world has witnessed a vindication of that policy that I will always adhere to.
“He’s strong on the man (tackle). He’s solid. He’s clairvoyant and one thing I like about him is that he’s very hungry and that’s what we need now.
“However, I must use this medium to state that Onobi did not play at the expense of (Mikel).”
