The Enugu State Police Command on Wednesday said that the command and its divisional headquarters were yet to receive any reported case of rape and sexual assault in the musical concert recently held in Enugu by Flavour.
The spokesman of the command, SP Ebere Amaraizu, told newsmen in Enugu that the alleged social media report purportedly obtained from a twitter handle message that some people were raped in the event was unfounded.
Amaraizu said that the doors of the command were open for anybody with any case of rape or sexual assault as well as any other incidence to come forward and make a report so that they could take necessary action.
“The report, which is based on a Twitter message in social media, is unfounded and we cannot operate on speculation as a law enforcement agency.
“Till now, nobody has come forward to report any case of sexual assault or molestation and rape to the command.
“However, our doors in the command, divisional headquarters and stations over the state are open for anybody or group to make a report and we take it up from there by doing further investigation,’’ he said.
According to Amaraizu, as far as the musical concert is concerned it is hitch-free and a huge success.
He noted that police and other security operatives were fully on the ground during and after the musical concert, which attracted lots of youths within and outside Enugu.
“We provided adequate policing of the musical concert venue and its adjoining roads; while our personnel ensure that there was law and order in the event proper.
Meanwhile, the command was still investigating an alleged attempted case of gang-rape of someone which never emanated from the musical concert.
“Also arrested were three others in relation to alleged offences of snatching and stealing of cell phones during the event.
“Those arrested will be made to face the music in line with various provisions and specifications of the law after a full investigation,’’ he said.
