Nobody would have heard of me if not for Kennis Music – Jaywon

JaywonPopular singer, Jaywon has acknowledged the positive impact that his former label, Kennis Music, has had on his career in a chat with qed.ng.

Dismissing claims that there was a clash between him and Kennis Music when he exited the label, the This Year crooner said, “People will always talk, but the truth is I started with Kennis Music and you guys probably wouldn’t have known who Jaywon actually is without them. Kenny Ogungbe remains my father anytime.”

A statement released by the label earlier in March said the singer had written a letter through his lawyer to request the termination of his contract with the company.

The statement read in part, “Jaywon wrote, in the same letter, his willingness to pay off all costs therein accordingly. However, Kennis Music, has urged the Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria and all broadcasters on all platforms to delist the works (either single performances or collaborations) of Iledare Oluwajuwonlo James, aka Jaywon, from their respective rotational play lists until his (Jaywon) request to buy over his contract is fully completed to avoid litigation.”

On his new record label, he said, “Shout-out to everyone who has been supporting Next World Music. We started last year, and we’re almost a year old now, and we’ve been able to weather the storms.

“Right now, we’re ready to take things to the next level. We’ve put out two music videos already, and we’re still working on another one right now. Right now, it’s all about Jaywon but we have a couple of people that we’ll sign in the future.”

Speaking about his future career plans, he enthused, “I haven’t released an album in about four years, so you guys will definitely get an album from me this year. I’m just praying for the favour of God.”

On why it is taking him so long to release another album, he said jokingly, “That’s a story for the gods o.”

On the scandal that once brewed between him and an up and coming singer, Imelda J, when it was reported that the duo was engaged, and that Jaywon had bought her a car, he quipped, “Look at my fingers, am I married? At least if I’m married, you’ll see the ring on my finger. Some people were just trying to use us, but God pass them (Oluwajuwonlo)… I don’t know anything about it.”

It should be recalled that Imelda had swiftly denied the reports then, while Jaywon refused to comment until now.
