Super Eagles legends Nwankwo Kanu and Ahmed Musa have congratulated Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala on bagging Africa’s biggest football prizes.
Osimhen was named the 2023 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Player of the Year for the first time in his career while Oshoala was crowned 2023 CAF Women’s Player of the Year for an historic sixth time.
The duo received the awards on Monday at the CAF awards ceremony in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Celebrating them, Kanu, who won two CAF Player of the Year awards during his career, said the football stars put Nigeria on the map.
“KAN U BELIEVE IT What a great accomplishment. Congratulations to @victorosimhen9 and @asisat_oshoala for winning African Player of the Year in football. Putting Nigeria on the map,” he wrote on social media.

Musa wrote from Istanbul, Turkey, congratulating his compatriots.
“Congrats once again @victorosimhen9 @asisat_oshoala proud of you,” he said.
Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie also won the women’s Goalkeeper of the Year prize at the ceremony.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria were named the women’s best national team on the continent. The Nigerian duo of Michelle Alozie and Tosin Demehin made the CAF women’s best XI.
