The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Imo on Friday graduated over 1000 corps members in various skills.
The skills include leather production, fashion designing, agro-allied, film production and cosmetology, among others.
The graduation ceremony for the 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Corps members on Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) was held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Eziama Obaire in Nkwerre Local Government area.
In her address, Mrs Faustina Ilorah, an Assistant Director (SAED) in NYSC Owerri, said that the skill acquisition training was to equip the corps members to be job creators and wealth generators.
She said the nine-day intensive training on 12 skills was graciously packaged by the NYSC management to ensure a change in the Nigerian workforce.
She said the corps members exhibited a high level of maturity, discipline and commitment to acquire the skills which had compassion for them.
Ilorah expressed gratitude to the state coordinator for her immense support both morally and otherwise, that ensured the success of the programme.
She thanked the trainers for their commitment and the knowledge imparted to the corps members.
The State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Josephine Bakare, expressed happiness at the level of skills acquired by the corps members within the short time as exemplified by the various beautiful exhibitions they presented.
She urged them to continue with the training outside the orientation camp to be efficient.
“This is an opportunity you should use to keep yourself busy during and after service.
“You need to continue the training, by the time you are through you won’t be looking for a job,” she said.
Bakare pledged the continued support of NYSC to the programme and encouraged the corps members to collect soft loans from the development partners to be well established.
The high point of the ceremony was an exhibition of various items ranging from bags, wigs, shoes, paints and other items produced by the graduating students.
