Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Thursday advised members of the newly sworn-in Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to be of good conduct.
The governor gave the advice during the swearing-in ceremony of the corps members held at the NYSC orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.

He said that the essence of the one-year mandatory service was “service to the fatherland”.
Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties, Dr Jimoh Yussuf, congratulated the corps members for successfully completing their academic journey.
“The NYSC Scheme was founded primarily on the vision of promoting peace and sustaining unity owing to the heterogeneous composition of our nation.
“It provides you (corps members) the opportunity to get to know your country more and appreciate the diversity in the culture, language, customs and beliefs of our people.

“This three weeks orientation programme and the regimented life on camp have been specifically planned for you to imbibe values such as discipline and tolerance.
“Although these values are primarily meant to guide your conduct during the orientation course, they would be of great benefit to you beyond the service year,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Sunday Aroni, said that 2, 444 corps members had registered before the close of registration at the camp.
He said that the number comprised 998 male and 1, 446 female, who he said, had coordinated themselves well which “is an indication of their resolve to diligently serve our fatherland.’’

Aroni said that the governor had resolved to make history in Lagos State by his renewed commitment to the construction of a befitting permanent orientation camp.
“The camp, which is at Agbowa, is upon completion and will accommodate a larger number of corps members during the orientation course in Lagos State,’’ he said.
